Dubai

I left Hong Kong and arrived in Dubai on the 10th. I'm staying with the Saunders in there wonderful villa. Elaina arrived yesterday and today we managed to set an agenda for the rest of our travels (at least the Dubai portion). We spent the day in the beach (where we were the only 2 until some other random pair arrived) we also checked out Wafi Mall. Tomorrow we are going on a overnight dessert safari. I'm looking forward to seeing the sunrise in the dessert on my birthday. Other birthday plans include Wild Wadi Water park, a night at Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf and drinks at the Burj Al Arab (7 star hotel) in the photo.

233 Meters

Yesterday Sylvia and I bungy jumped off the Macau Tower. The jump at 233 meters is the highest bungy jump in the world. This is a good thing so I won't be tempted to do it again. Glad I did it but I won't be tempted to do it again. The worst part of all was the hanging upside down as they slowly lower you down. I could have done without that, especially the worrying that one of my sneakers would fall off and the what would happen if it did. I'll have some very cool pictures of that coming soon. (I know, I know I promise pictures and never deliver but this time it's not my fault, they have to mail the CD to me because we had to run to catch our ferry back to Hong Kong.....which we missed anyways! But nevertheless it was a fun day in Macau.

Randomness

from Muneca and her camera

T is for Temple

Favorite Temples of 1. Dora the Explorer 2. Rufuz 3. Muneca

Aight so these pictures and entry is out of order...if any one knows how to add a post and/or back date a post on blogspot do send the info. along.

We've been sticking to Plan A for the most part. We took the train from Bangkok on Aug. 14th to the Ayutthaya train station (6 hours). From there we took a tuk tuk to Poi Pet the Cambodian Border and finally we took a taxi (3 hours) to our Guest house (Mommy's) in Siem Reap Cambodia. We spent 4 days and 3 nights here viewing the magneficant temples of Angkor Wat. My last visit here was in 2000 and it was nice to be back, not just in here but in Cambodia in general. The temples look even more amazing surrounded by water, different from my first visit here during the dry season.

Ode to Sand...

today we got back from huan hin

a place of laziness, coconut water and sand

crabs running in the water, freaking me out

mosquitos feasting on my legs

waves pushing the jelly fish closer

oh, beach, how I have not seen you in 3 years!

and I haven't had creativity after so many briefs, motions and case law, I can't for the life of me make this post rhyme...so on that note, farewell matey.....back to scratching mosquito bites.....

The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round....or not.

So, we debated, discussed, deliberated and decided to take the 12 dollar bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok. Oh the joy of being on one bus, no transfers and no worries of making connecting buses or trains....little did we know the journey ahead of us.

The day began with a strong rain storm that made the alley outside our hostel into a mud pond. I walked out hestitantly to the bus which was waiting on the corner and boarded the bus to see a bunch of tourists, from all over, popping their heads above their seats to check out the new suckers to board the bus, which was probably made and recalled in the mid 1970's.

As I was settling in to my seat, the bus started to pull away leaving Muenca916, no where to be found, I ran to the bus driver, who spoke no english paniced that they left behind Muenca at the hostel. "NOOOOO, leave no man behind!!!!"

Asked the driver again to go back to get my friend..."my friend, not here" I don't get it why I was repeating it, as if the man would magically understand the meaning for those words if I repeat it a thousand times. (Details on Muenca916's adventure through mud and motobikes I leave to her to explain...)

After picking up Muenca from another corner pick up spot, we were on our way, the wheels on the bus go round and round....round and round.....round and round....that is until one hour later when the driver pulled off. At first I thought it was a bathroom break, but ten minutes, twenty minutes passed and all the passengers quickly realized something was amiss. The mud on the streets (well techincally its not really "streets", just mounds of soil that has been flattened daily by big bulky machines. which when it rained made it became a big mud trap, trapping even the biggest and baddest vehicles.) had messed up the tire. Think, My Cousin Vinny, mud in tires.

One hour later, back on the road for 20 minutes before we took a lunch break. One hour later, the wheels on the bus went round and BANG!!!! One tire popped! sounded like a gun shot and we were left on the side of the road, for the assistant driver to try to fix it. 45 minutes later, we were on the road for another 10 minutes, before getting to a tire station, and then drove for one more hour....

And that was just to get out of Cambodia boarder. When we got to the boarder, I felt like we had won an endurance game....9am departure, 4pm arrival to the Poi Pet boarder, departing to Bangkok, arrived at 9:30pm.

12 hours on a bus....one grumpy, square booty crumpled up traveler....I think I could have walked faster...perhaps.
